I love cityscapes, especially how light can transform ordinary street scenes and highlight architecture. I was drawn to this haiku because I knew I wanted to paint one of the historic Syracuse buildings. I chose the Syracuse Savings Bank, renowned for its gothic revival style, beauty and longevity. I had the opportunity to spend a semester abroad which strengthened my belief that American cities need to preserve the past. I chose to execute the poster as a painting because my end goal was to create a dramatic rendering paying homage to the bank's unique architectural elements. Hues of blue and orange represent Syracuse University. My painting style is impressionistic, each brushstroke tells a story.
