Character Development Meetup

Join us for the second in an ongoing series of Character Development Meetups, 6 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, in the café at Parthenon Bookstore, 333 S. Salina St.

The meetup welcomes artists, writers, and storytellers for an evening of learning and socializing related to the development of fictional characters, including mascots, superheroes, comic and cartoon characters, puppets, and graphic novel characters.

Meetups are facilitated by David Hicock, an artist and co-founder of Animotion Inc., the long-standing Syracuse animation studio.

Participants will discuss characters they’ve developed, or would like to develop, and offer one another support. They'll also help the Poster Project develop story lines for its mascot, Paige.

Bring basic drawing supplies, examples of your favorite fictional characters (comics, cartoons, manga), and an eagerness to invent.

Meetups will continue, 6 to 7:30 p.m., third Fridays of the month, at Parthenon. The meetups are free, but participants are encouraged to support the venue by ordering a pastry or drink from the cafe.

The meetups will complement the Project’s work in civic entrepreneurship by giving Central New Yorkers a new outlet for creative expression.

Unveiling ceremony 2027

The unveiling celebration of the 2027 poster series will take place, 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 23, in the atrium at the former City Hall Commons, 201 E. Washington St.

The poets and artists of the new series gather with friends, family, and other supporters of public art for a celebration of the new posters. We'll have food, drink, music, and of course, a display of the new posters. We'll also be selling prints of the new work.

City Hall Commons is located on East Washington Street, between Warren and Montgomery streets. It's the flat iron building just south of the State Tower Building.
