  • Man walking on yellow brick road toward rainbow and Oz

    Poet

    From Chittenango

“The Wizard of Oz” is a wonderful allegory of “life’s journey” in search of love, wisdom, and confidence. We are all on “the yellow-brick road”of shared experiences, to self-realization. Frank Baum tried and failed at many endeavors. “The Wizard of Oz” movie was released twenty years after he died. The haiku reveals Frank Baum’s journey to his glorious destiny…literary immortality!

Things are not often what they appear to be. Follow the yellow brick road!

  • Two people talking over a cup of coffee and a person walking their dog in front of tall old factory buildings

My poetic practice (from a poem of mine):

Sometimes you walk around the corner
and bump into the right word waiting there, smiling
    to embrace your thought.
    She's lovely in the shadows
and even more radiant on the page.

Once in a while, a strong emotion
    wakens you from your slumber,
lifts you up and transports you
    to where you've never been,
let's you molt your previous life
    and breathe air so fresh
    it has a taste.
