Most cities have at least one structure that would inspire a haiku for the “spirit of historical architecture” prompt. Syracuse has numerous creations to consider, each fitting the designation with their own characteristics.
The NiMo building, now National Grid, may not be as old as some of the other Syracuse notables, but its art deco style and the reasoning behind it stand out.
The Haudenosaunee Confederacy has existed for many generations. Preceding the Confederacy was the Great League of Peace. Organized by the Peacemaker, with assistance from Aiionwatha (Hiawatha), the league’s members were the chiefs of the five nations.
It was before this body that the Peacemaker presented each law of the Great Peace. After the Peacemaker persuaded the chiefs to adopt the Great Peace Laws, the league became the Great Confederation of the Five nations. Now known as the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and consisting of Six Nations, it continues to follow the Peacemaker’s guidance.
