  • Water in a fountain pool reflects the bright sky dotted with clouds above in front of a monument

    The Blue Sky Ripples

I've always been fond of light—how it renders objects translucent or transparent, and how it reflects off objects, especially water. So I thought this poem could lend itself to some beautiful artwork.

Much of my work, including illustration, has an emphasis on equilibrium and symmetry. So that's another reason I was fond of the poem: I saw the possibility of symmetry.

The illustration involved some luck, actually. When I visited Clinton Square, it was early in the morning, and the light hit the water in a certain way, so that it reflected the monument. I also went there later in the day and there was no reflection at all.
