I have been tutoring refugee children in the Syracuse Community since my sophomore year at Syracuse University. I've had so much fun spending time with the kids, who are so wonderful and full of life. My personal experience is what drew me to the haiku I selected. I wanted my piece to be bright, happy, and cheerful, which is why I used playful colors in my screen-print. I wanted to depict the joy in finding a new home where you can feel happy and safe.
I enjoy using line over value within my work. This haiku allowed me to make line drawings of buildings and portraits.
