The Harleys roll in
for music and barbeque
Oh, see how they shine!
When I first moved to Syracuse, a friend introduced me to the Dinosaur Barbecue, for the music and the food. Prior to that, I hadn't had much experience with the biker culture. However, there seemed to be a variety of people there, and I really liked it. I felt comfortable and I fit right in.
Initially, I was a regular. I would go mostly for the music. Although I don't know how to write music, I hear music, and a lot of times my poems come to me as music.
Today, the Dinosaur seems to play a variety of music. Years ago, it was strictly blues. I like the blues because its very soulful and I can get lost in it. It's great!
When I saw this poem, I knew immediately it was referring to the Dinosaur Barbeque. It's a place where I always have a really great time. I thought it would be fun to illustrate, because it's always so full of energy.
I wanted the poster to be whimsical, because it was going to be for a wide variety of people to see. I wanted something that would catch people's eye, and basic shapes and bold colors do that. The bold images make a loud piece of work, and the Dinosaur BBQ is definitely a loud place. The Dinosaur BBQ can be heard from a distance, and my goal was for my image to be seen from a distance.
