city slowly wakes

I'm retired now, but I worked downtown for over 25 years. That's what I always think of, going to work in the morning. In the summer, the sun is already up, but in the winter, it's just starting to get light. You walk past the early morning eateries and you smell the aroma of coffee coming from them. You walk past the stores and look in the windows. I did that for many years. It's just your everyday morning downtown.
I enjoyed working downtown. I would go out on my lunch hour and get something to eat or shop. I would go to the post office, the library. I got a lot of exercise, too, walking around downtown.
Maybe next time I'll have to write a poem about afternoon lunch hour.
I went to Freedom of Espresso and took some pictures, especially of the stained glass windows with the coffee cups. It was fall and the leaves were still on the trees and it was still pretty outside. My painting was based on that coffee shop, but I altered it so it could be any coffee shop.
My favorite season in Syracuse us autumn because of all the beautiful colors. That's why I chose to incorporate those colors into my painting. I also like to make sure I have a contrasting accent color, so I chose the turquoise tones to go with the orange and reds.
When it comes to coffee, I'm pretty classic. I just like a nice big cup with milk and sugar. When I get coffee in Armory Square I go to Freedom of Espresso. I like the way it looks in there.
