Early morning sun.
Melts snow to liquid silver
and as icicles gleam, I dream.
Nature inspires my poetry, nature and the beautiful sights I see whether on a hike or right outside my window.
I wrote this poem on one of those brilliantly sunny, winter days when all the icicles were melting, and I could feel the warmth of the sun through the glass. As much as I enjoy our Syracuse winters, on this day I was dreaming about spring.
I love the challenge of writing poetry. It forces me to crystalize my thoughts and select just the right words to convey them. I have to think about the words' meanings and also the artistry of how they work together, how they sound when read aloud. It is very satisfying when the right words finally come together.
Snow day! There are very few two words that could bring such total excitement in a child's world.
Everything has turned magical with a twinkling white everywhere. All previous obligations have become history or put off for later. It's out of the house, grab a sled and link up with a friend or 12 for a day of joy!
All those feelings from childhood underscored by being a parent and reliving the joy with a pile of kids (mine and others) conspired to form the inspiration that led me to pick the poetry that launched my poster. Pick up a pencil and draw!
